According to the police, the Eight were arrested yesterday and they would be presented to court once investigations against them are done. Police have also said that they were still hunting some motorists who escaped yesterday’s arrest.

The accident occurred in the Roysambu area, Kasarani Sub-county in Nairobi, and was ferrying beans and rice to Garissa county which is currently experiencing drought and famine.

In a video that circulated on social media, several motorists were seen packaging rice and beans in their vehicles.

Garissa county is on the list of counties experiencing drought and famine and according to the government, it was sending emergency food supplies to the area.

Other counties that received the emergency food supplies include, Wajir, Marsabit, Kitui, among other counties.

Speaking on the matter, Government spokesperson, Cyrus Oguna, has lamented over the incident saying that the incident reflected how society had decayed to behave in such an inhumane way.

“How barbaric have we become? What happened to the values of peace, love, and unity? We loot from victims of road accidents. • We loot food meant for our brothers and sisters in drought-stricken areas. We loot fuel from overturned oil tankers. We loot from the dead lying on the road. What kind of a society have we become?” read his Twitter post.
