The road sign was erected on Thursday 4th November night.

This comes only weeks after the Nairobi County Assembly voted to rename the route after the former Kenyan Prime Minister, who was a pivotal figure in the fight for multi-party democracy.

According to Nairobi County Communication Director Jacob Elkana, he stated that the Orange Democratic party Leader {ODM} Raila deserves the honor since he has fought for Kenyans several times.

"He minds about Kenyans and as a County, it is our obligation to make it real and honor such leaders," Elkana stated.

The move was supported by Kenya`s Activist Boniface Mwangi who also added that Raila deserved the honor since he had fought for Kenya for many years even at his tender age.

"He spent 10 years in custody because of advocating for democracy. For his service to this nation, he deserves a road, even an airport named after him. The older Raila is a traitor to his younger self," Mwangi stated.

Raila`s Road signage erection comes barely months after another road signage in former DikDik Road was renamed after COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli.

However, the road's designation ignited a social media controversy about whether the COTU boss deserved to be memorialized or not.

Outspoken Activist Boniface Mwangi vowed to pull down the signages further accusing boss Atwoli of violating the constitution.

“I came from the womb of a brave woman. If that sign is still up when l come back home (from an overseas trip), l shall personally remove it.

"Atwoli, you have violated Chapter 6 of the Constitution on integrity. Installing a camera to guard a road sign is a waste of our taxes to please your fat ego.”
