Former Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri has been appointed as Lazio’s head coach.

Official: Maurizio Sarri is the new manager for Lazio.

The 62-year-old has signed a two-year contract worth around £2.5 million. He will begin his job next season.

Sarri had been jobless since August 2020 when he was sacked by Juventus after being with them for 14 months. The sacking was prompted by the loss of Juventus to Lyon in Champions League round of 16 stage.

The ex Napoli will replace Simone Inzaghi who joined Inter Milan to take charge after Antonio Conte left on a mutual consent. He will be joined by his assistant Giovanni Martusciello along with Marco Ianni, Andrea Pertugio and Massimo Nenci.

Sarri coached Napoli for three seasons having joined the club in 2015. He lead Napoli to be in second place in Serie A in his first season. In 2016/17 season, the club finished third and second in 2017/18. On 23 May 2018, he was sacked and Carlo Ancelotti took his place.

He moved to Chelsea on 14 July 2018 where the club finished 2018/19 season with Europa League title and runner-up in EFL Cup. Chelsea parted ways with him at the end of that season.

Juventus signed him on a three-year contract on 16 June 2019. During his time, the Turin club won Serie A title(2019/20) and runner-up in Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana.
