The Media Council of Kenya has called for the arrest of Security details at Chungwa house who assaulted two journalists denying them entry into the Chungwa house.

According to reports, the two journalists, from the Standard and the star, were denied access at the Chungwa house during a press conference when Kajiado Governor Ole Lenku was joining the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

In a report the media council of Kenya has called on the ODM leadership to disown such acts of violence against the media and commit to non-interference in the work of media workers.

The media council of Kenya calls on the ODM leadership led by its leader Mr. Raila Odinga who was hosting today’s event to disown such acts of violence against the media and commit to non- interference in the work of media workers in all its activities henceforth.” Read part of the statement.    

The council further added that it is committed to ensure safety and protection of journalists during the electioneering period.

According to other reports, two other Nation media reporters and a driver are claimed to have been denied entry at an Azimio La Umoja rally in Dagoretti North.

On their part the Kenya Union of Journalists ((KUJ), has condemned the attack and demanded that the hooligans who assaulted the journalists to be handed over to the police.

We condemn the attacks, which left Standard Reported Moses Nyamori injured and we demand that the hooligans who believe assaulting journalists is the only way to express their misguided frustrations are identified and handed over to the police by the conveners of today’s news event immediately.” Read part of the statement by KUJ.

Responding to the claims, Raila Odinga presidential secretariats have said that they have a zero tolerance against any forms of intimidation and violence adding that they will review the reports and respond to the claims appropriately.
