Justices Marete and Chitembwe to Appear Before the JSC Panel Again

The duo will be appearing before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) again for an interview for the position of a Supreme Court judge.

The two were to appear before the JSC panel in turns with Justice Chitembwe scheduled to be interviewed first at 9 am followed by Justice Marete at 11 am.

Both had previously appeared before the Prof Mugenda led panel and had been interviewed for the position of Chief Justice.

However, their quest to succeed Maraga was unsuccessful after the commission nominated Lady Justice Martha Koome for the CJ position waiting vetting by parliament and the president’s approval.

The Supreme Court judge's seat fell vacant after the retirement of Justice Jackton Ojwang in February 2020 after attaining 70 years.

The successful candidate in the ongoing interviews will also be vetted by National Assembly then appointed officially by President to join the seven-member bench in the highest court in the country.
