The man was arrested in Kidiwa estate following the ongoing operation targeting several informal settlements in Eldoret town and its environs known to be illicit brew dens.

According to Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara, the police received a tip-off from a member of the public over a suspicious business that the man was engaged in.

“When we knocked at the door of the suspect, he refused to open and we forced our way in,” Kihara told a media briefing at the scene of the crime.

“We found a number of packaging bottles – and most of the things there have no Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and Kenya Bureau of Standards (KeBS) stickers. We suspect they are from another country,” he added.

Over 250 cartons of the second generation liquor were nabbed in the operation which the County Security boss says has been ongoing for the past 5 days.

The value of the nabbed items is estimated at over Ksh3 million.

Kihara further said they found half a sack of cash whose value could not be immediately be established.

“The cash is not yet verified but it’s quite a huge sum,” he noted.

He said the operation being undertaken by a multi-agency team will continue until when all the culprits involved in the illegal business are arrested and charged.

“We’ve been to Huruma, Spain, Langas, and King’ng’o and the operation will continue. We’re getting a lot of support from mwananchi who feel it’s the only way to save the young generation,” Kihara.
