IG Mutyambai Orders Police Security At Oil Tankers And Filling Stations For 72 Hours

The directive begins today, Thursday, April 14, and ends Saturday, April 16 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Police Spokesperson Bruno Ishioso said in a statement to the press that this is one of the steps that would be taken to alleviate the difficulties that Kenyans are facing due to the fuel crisis.

"The National Police has taken cognizance of the persistent situation and has joined other state actors in providing a solution to alleviate the difficulties experienced."

"As part of the mitigation measures, the Inspector General of Police has directed the police to provide free movement and escort all fuel transport tankers during the night for the next 72 hours between 6 pm-6 am starting Thursday to Saturday," read part of the statement.

He also ordered the police to provide security to local gas outlets across the country.

According to him, the directive is intended to enhance traffic flow on highways near filling stations and facilitate the transfer of fuel as the government works around the clock to restore normalcy following a severe shortage in the recent past.
