The rural clinic could not be certain of his height since it lacked the necessary measurement equipment as he had outgrown the scale in height.

The young man, Awuche, who is most popularly known by his Hausa nickname which means “Let’s Go” had been diagnosed with gigantism a few years earlier.

His current height was measured at the hospital when he went for a monthly appointment to deal with the difficulties of living as a giant.

Given that he has never stopped growing, Awuche was unsurprised to learn that he was taller, but the staff was alarmed because they were unprepared for the situation.

Awuche has now succeeded the 40-year-old Turk, Sultan Kosen, who currently holds the Guinness World Record at 8 feet, 2.8 inches.

He first noted the height increase when he was 22 years old after he noticed that his tongue had grown so large in his mouth that he was unable to breathe normally.

He went to a nearby drugstore to purchase some medication, but days later he saw that every other portion of his body had begun to enlarge.

He became aware that he was gradually growing into a giant when members of his village came to visit him in the city and commented on his growth spurt.

He grew taller than everyone and sought medical attention as the issues the growth brought increased.

His disease, Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting the body's connective tissues, has left him with a spine that is unusually bent, one of its most noticeable signs.

More significant side effects include heart abnormalities and excessively lengthy limbs.

According to doctors, his brain will need to undergo surgery to stop the height growth.

Awuche had been working at a butcher shop and saving money to enroll in driving lessons but he eventually had to return to his hometown six years ago due to health issues, giving up his ambition to become a driver.
