Four people have been arrested for drugging and robbing passengers on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Stephen Odero, Benson Odero, Joshua Orengo, and Harrison Nyamu are said to have boarded the bus in Kisumu on Sunday with the intent to commit the crime.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), the bus driver, Emmanuel Barasa, noticed an unusual situation on the bus in which everyone was fast asleep except for two people who alternated positions across the bus.

After suspecting something was wrong, Barasa detoured into the Kabete police station. The two suspects' escape plans were thwarted.

"But it is the snores reverberating from all corners of the bus that were unusually loud, punctuated by threatening growls that alarmed the driver, who immediately detoured to the police station situated along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway,” Read part of the statement by the DCI.

"Attempts by the two thugs to jump from the fast-moving bus turned futile, after the beast stormed the police station at a high-speed prompting police officers on sentry duties to dash down for cover and take positions, in case of any eventuality.” The statement went on to state.

According to DCI, during an inspection, police officers discovered that the majority of the passengers had lost valuables such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and money, among other things.

After being discovered in possession of the stolen items, the four were singled out.

However, they were rushed to the hospital after police discovered that they had consumed the remaining substance in order to destroy any evidence.

“It is at the hospital that it was discovered that the suspects had taken a dose of their own medicine after ingesting the remaining ‘pishori’, in a bid to destroy the exhibit," the DCI added.

The bus was allowed to continue its journey, but passengers were advised to seek medical attention if they became ill.
