Law enforcers on Friday evening managed to arrest the former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Sports Rashid Echesa at his Shibale home, Mumias Central, Kakamega County.

Echesa went into hiding on Thursday (yesterday) after he was filmed assaulting an Independent Electoral and Boundaries' Commission (IEBC) official during the Matungu by-elections.

Speaking on Friday, the Police Inspector-General (IG) Hillary Mutyambai had stated that Echesa risked being declared an armed and dangerous person after his failure to surrender to authorities as ordered.

The ex-CS is currently cooling heels at the Kakamega Central Police Station, where he will spend his weekend awaiting court arraignment on Monday.

Close police sources have revealed that the suspect will not be freed on any bond but stay behind bars until Monday, March 8.
