Embu police have launched an investigation into the shooting of a prominent businessman-turned-politician, Dennis Mbae Muthengi.

He who was shot dead as he entered his home in Bonanza estate on Wednesday night. He was wounded many times after his car was blasted with gunshots.

He was pronounced dead at the Embu Level Five Hospital at about 11 p.m.

Embu West OCPD Julius Chibule confirmed the event, saying police were called to the spot after gunshots were heard and discovered the victim had already been taken to the hospital by neighbors.

According to the OCPD, the suspects had followed the businessman in an unregistered vehicle and attacked him approximately 25 meters from his gate.

One of the attackers is said to have alighted and fired 16 shots into the deceased's car's front door, fatally injuring him.

They then drove away without taking anything, leaving the victim’s car in a trench after he lost control of it during the shooting.

Muthengi had been arrested multiple times for alleged theft and drug trafficking but he's always managed to escape in unexplained and controversial ways.

He ventured into politics in 2017 while vying for the Kirimari Ward MCA seat, with th Maendeleo Chap Chap party.
