Officers from the Administration Police's Critical Installation Police Unit (CIPU) initially guarded the residence. The AP officers have been replaced by a group of more than a dozen red berets.

When GSU officers took over the residence, they began scanning every vehicle that entered and exited the property. Locals who had gathered to celebrate Dr. Ruto's victory spent the night outside the gate.

This comes as jubilation, dancing, singing, and chants filled the streets of Uganda Road, Eldoret town as people celebrated their 'son's' (William Ruto) election to the country's highest political office.

The crowd, which had gathered as early as 12 pm to watch events at the Bomas of Kenya on a giant screen erected along Uganda Road, erupted in joy when Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson Wafula Chebukati announced that Ruto had won the Tuesday, August 9 General Election.

“This is truly historic to us. One like us, who has lived a life of struggle is going to Statehouse. I can’t believe it. I never thought it will happen, but it has, and I am so happy,” one of the residents stated.
