Ann Kananu to be Sworn in as Nairobi Governor
Acting Nairobi governor Ann Kananu Mwenda is now set to be sworn in as the new Nairobi county boss.
This is after the Court of Appeal threw out a petition by Mike Sonko challenging the ascension of Ann Kananu.
According to the court, Sonko has been out of office for over 10 months and is no longer Nairobi Governor he, therefore, needs to pave way for incoming Governor Ann.
After Sonko and human rights activist Okiya Omtatah filed an appeal in July, the court of Appeal temporarily suspended Kananu's inauguration as Governor of Nairobi.

However, Kananu was nominated as Sonko's deputy in January 2020, but the county legislature was prevented from vetting her by the court. She was later cleared, vetted, and sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Nairobi.
After Sonko's impeachment, her swearing-in hampered the possibility of a by-election.
