According to Marsabit County Nutrition Department Coordinator, Immaculate Mutua, the hunger and famine crises have been rising in North Horr, Laisamis and Saku sub-counties.

According to Mutua, the county government has taken measures that will ensure that such cases area avoided going into the future.

The measures according to Mutua will ensure that the county combats malnutrition which is one of the highest causes of infant mortality in the county.

Furher according to Henry Mustafa, who is the Marsabit National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) coordinator  at least 7,000 children out of 20,000 under the age of five are at a great risk of starvation at the county.

Mustafa also added that over 200,000 residents have been affected by drought, with at least 75,000 facing a serious humanitarian crisis.

Mustafa has cited loss of over 240,000 livestock due to drought as the number one contributor to the recent crisis since the county depends on livestock for nutrition.

He has since appealed to Kenyans of goodwill to help Marsabit residents adding that the situation is so critical and needs a collective intervention.
