Why Monday will be a Public Holiday
Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang`i declared on Friday, July 8th that Monday 11th July will be a public holiday.

Matiang'i stated in a gazette notification issued on Friday that Monday would be a holiday to allow for the celebration of Idd ul-Adha.
"IT IS notified for general information that in the exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 as read with section 2 (2) of the Public Holidays Act (Cap. 110), the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government declares Monday, 11th July 2022 a public holiday marking Idd–ul –Adha," reads the Gazette Notice dated July 8, 2022.
Idd–ul –Adha also known as the Feast of the Sacrifice, is the second and the biggest celebration within Islam.
Many Kenyans who were unaware wondered why Monday was going to be a public holiday.

Eid ul-Adha ('Festival of Sacrifice') is one of the most important Muslim holidays. The event commemorates the prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail.
The festival is one of the second and the biggest celebration within Islam.
