Trump’s Facebook Accounts Suspended for two Years

Facebook has banned US former President Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts for two years.

Trump’s Facebook Accounts Suspended for two Years

Trump had been banned indefinitely from both sites in January in the wake of posts he made on the US Capitol riots, but last month Facebook's Oversight Board criticized the open-ended penalty.

According to Facebook, Facebook Trump’s actions were "a severe violation of our rules".

However, the former US president said the move was "an insult" to the millions who voted for him in last year's presidential election.

The move by Facebook comes as the social media giant is also completing a policy shielding politicians from some content moderation rules.

Facebook says it would no longer give politicians immunity for deceptive or abusive content based on their comments being newsworthy.

According to Facebook’s new policy, it says, public figures that violate its rules by inciting unrest or violence will be banned for a month or, in more serious cases, up to two years.

In his response, Trump termed the move by Facebook as an insult to more than 75m people who voted for him.
