According to Alutalala Mukhwana, Wanyonyi's chief of protocol and legal counsel, the politician was still debating whether he should run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Wanyonyi, on the other hand, has the option of deputizing Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja, who has already secured a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket, to run on a joint ticket in the Kenya Kwanza coalition.

"Mheshimiwa is going to make an announcement in the next two weeks on his next move," Mukhwana stated.

Mukhwana criticized Azimio La Umoja's decision to select Polycarp Igathe as his gubernatorial candidate and Philip Kaloki as his running mate, claiming that the former Nairobi deputy governor represented ideologies for the minority rather than the interests of Nairobi residents in general.

"They have forced him out of the race in favour of a political novice who represents capitalistic interests," stated Mukhwana.

Wanyonyi made the announcement three days after meeting Sakaja in a city hotel. The meeting between the two sparked political debate, with some political pundits claiming that it was a powerful political statement.

Source privy to Wanyonyi told reporters that the meeting was arranged due to the duo's mutual interest in Nairobi politics.

“Both leaders have chosen to run and ultimately seek to work to represent the aspirations of their constituents," the source stated.

It is clear in their mantras, Sakaja’s being Let’s Make Nairobi Work and Tim’s being Sio Mimi, Ni Sisi, both allude that it is about the people and that resolve cuts across the political divide.

"Sakaja’s deputy will be unveiled in the next coming days," the source added.
