Nine people including a senior local government official were reported dead on Wednesday 27th July after a suicide bombing incident occurred in southern Somalia.

According to the police and an eyewitness the Al-Shabaab jihadist group has been claimed responsible for the fatal attack.

Further details sourced by this media outlet revealed that the district commissioner Abdullahi Ali Ahmed Wafow was having a conversation with locals outside the administration building in the town of Marka when the incident happened.

"Commissioner Abdullahi Wafow was killed in an explosion together with eight other people, most of them security personnel," a police officer in Marka, Ibrahim Ali, told AFP by phone.

"The police are still investigating the incident but there are already indications that a suicide bomber carried out the deadly attack."

In a succinct statement, Al-Shaabab claimed accountability and stated that the commissioner was the objective of the "martydom operation."

"The bomber ran up to the commissioner and blew himself up," witness Abdukadir Hassan said.

"I was close to where the incident occurred, the scene was horrible with these shattered pieces of human flesh all around."
