According to reports, he was then driven to the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road for questioning. The reason for the arrest was not immediately clear, but reports suggested it was related to the alleged forged certificate.

His attorneys are said to be camped out in front of the DCI headquarters after being denied entry.

Prior to the arrest, the Nairobi Senator, who is running for the city's gubernatorial seat, had a heated argument with the DCI's director, George Kinoti, daring him to carry out the arrest.

Sakaja, according to the DCI chief, is being investigated for possible links to an international crime syndicate that forges documents.

Marakwet Elegeyo Senator Kipchumba Murkomen claimed that Sakaja's arrest was authorized by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
