The curfew was imposed in response to an increase in cases of insecurity in the county caused by the illegal possession of firearms by groups in the region, which endangers national security.

He also ordered a crackdown on illegal mining activities, which appear to be contributing to the rise in insecurity.

Matiangi has declared Kom Sub-location in Isiolo County a disturbed area for the next 30 days, noting that the government has been shifting security resources there.

"With effect from 6pm tonight, we have placed the whole of Marsabit County under curfew for 30 days. Any movement and activities must be cleared by the security sector," Matiang'i stated.

He revealed that the government had initially called for talks with regional leaders and given them a week to restore calm in the region. However, the leaders failed to do so, which resulted in an increase in attacks across the country.

"The kind of mystery acts that we have seen in that area must come to an end. We are now ready prepared and available to address that clean-up in Marsabit once and for all.  It is not going to be easy and we are not going in there to be popular we are going in there to solve a problem," Matiang'i added.

According to Matiang'i, there have been activities in the region carried out by unnamed groups, including those related to terrorism. He reassured residents that the government had sent security personnel to the area to control the situation.

CS Matiang'i further added that the government had received intelligence that the insecurity was linked to a group based in a neighboring country.
