According to footage captured by the drone, the armed bandits were grazing their livestock while clutching their weapons.

Accidentally they noticed the drone hovering around them, one man tried to stone the drone before another pointed a gun at it and opened fire.

"The armed herders struggled to hide from our cameras while some, brazenly opened fire to bring it down," narrated senior reporter at KTN Ibrahim Karanja.

However, Karanja added that the herders' attempts to attack the broadcaster's equipment were unsuccessful.

This shocking incident comes at a time hundreds of villagers have been displaced by the robbers, who have also killed many people.

George Natembeya, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner stated that the bandits have sophisticated weaponry that are often superior to those employed by the police.

"While our officers are using AK47 and G3 rifles, the bandits (in Laikipia) are using M16s and other heavy machinery, which are usually used by foreign armies who come for training in Kenya. We don't know how they get these heavy weapons," stated Natembeya, while speaking to press.
