Kiambu county boss James Nyoro has collided with the county's Senator Kimani Wamatangi over allegedly misused Covid-19 funds.

A recent audit report by the Auditor-General (AG) Ms. Nancy Gathungu recently revealed how the county had misappropriated Ksh300 million.

Senator Wamatangi maintains that Governor Nyoro must account for the funds. At the same time, the governor has accused Wamatangi of seeking political mileage through the issue.

"By the end of this, we want to know who has taken our money. We are not saying nothing has been done, but where is the rest that is not being accounted for," stated Wamatangi.

Nyoro noted how the Senator aimed at fixing him over the misappropriation, as he seeks to unseat him as the next governor in 2022.

The governor further added that Senator Wamatangi should have excused himself from the interrogating committee, in order to avoid conflict of interest since he comes from the same county.

Wamatangi who is the Senate Majority-whip also doubles as a Senate Health Committee member. Ms. Gathungu noted how the county could not account for about Ksh328 million expenditure.

According to the AG, the funds were used without a clear framework of what was to be done. Further, it emerged that the county issued double payment of allowances, in addition, to purchase non-pharmaceutical products amounting to KSh8.9 million.
