Ex-Governor Sonko Defense Team Abandons His Graft Case Citing Court's Unfairness

All legal experts representing embattled former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko in his graft case on Tuesday announced that they will no longer be part of the proceedings.

Led by the veteran lawyer Dr. Khaminwa John, the team blasted the court over what they termed as lack of fairness on how the matter was being handled.

The legal team pointed out how the court denied them sufficient time to consult from Sonko's ex-legal team, in attempts to gather sufficient evidence.

Dr. Khaminwa further slammed Magistrate Douglas Ogoti for insisting that Sonko must carry on with the case, despite the doctors who had stated that the accused required some resting time before resuming the charges.

Khaminwa added how the media team was barred from the case yet it was a public trial. The lawyer insisted that he found no purpose in continuing with an illegal thing, that was being conducted against the set regulations by the constitution.

"I do not want to participate in an illegal process," Khaminwa told the press moments after walking out of the trial chambers.

Khaminwa further revealed how the magistrate was determined to ensure the case entraps Sonko fully leading to him being put behind bars at the end.
