9 Vehicles Collide At Kinungi Area Leaving One Dead

On Monday morning, May 30, 2022, a vehicle collision at the Kinungi blackspot, along the Nairobi Nakuru Highway involving nine vehicles resulted in the injuries of several passengers and the death of one person.

According to a statement released by St John Ambulance Kenya, seven private cars, a 14-seater Matatu, and a truck were involved in the accident, 

Those who were injured in the accident were brought to the Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital, where they are being treated.

According to Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru, the person who died was traveling in a Nairobi-bound matatu when it was hit by a truck.

"The truck driver headed towards Naivasha was trying to avoid the accident scene when his vehicle collided with an oncoming matatu," Waweru explained.

He claimed that two vehicles had crashed head-on moments before ad that they were still on the site when the second accident occurred.

"The vehicles were using a single lane when the multiple crash occurred after the truck hit the matatu. Several other vehicles rammed into the rear of the truck," added Waweru.

The accident prompted a massive traffic jam, with cars being redirected off the highway and police on the scene attempting to keep the situation under control.

On February 28, 2022, four people perished in a horrific accident in the Kinungi area when their Toyota Probox collided with the back of a truck transporting building supplies.

The vehicle's fifth passenger suffered serious injuries, while the other four perished on the spot.

According to Naivasha Sub-County Police Commander Samuel Waweru, the car's driver failed to maintain a safe distance as required by traffic laws and may have been speeding at the time of the incident.

According to the most recent NTSA report, 1,345 persons died in road accidents between the beginning of the year and April 11, 2022.

This represented a 15% rise over the 1,168 fatalities registered during the same time period the previous year.

With 457 fatalities, pedestrians came in first, followed by motorcyclists with 381. Pillion passengers and public vehicle passengers were in second and third, with 137 and 225 fatalities, respectively.
