The 5-day event being staged at the Eldoret Social Hall will see youths from Uasin Gishu County discuss a variety of issues ranging from health, governance, innovation, and economic empowerment among others.

Speaking during the first day of the event, the Uasin Gishu Youth leader Collins Kemboi said they intend to use the function to rally the youth to take the lead on a number of issues, key of them being shunning politicians out to cause ethnic divisions.

“We know Uasin Gishu has previously been labeled as a hotpot of violence but as the youth, we want to make sure that as we head to the 2022 general elections this county will be the hotspot of peace,” said Kemboi.

“Young people we need to be trained how to develop a culture of addressing issues non-violently and this is one area that this Youth Summit will be seeking to address,” he added.

The event will also provide a platform for the youth to engage professionals and cooperates on opportunities for the young people for economic empowerment and how they can play a role in matters of devolution, governance, and public participation.

“We need to see how the young people can use their innovations to drive the country’s development agenda, keeping in mind that they are the most productive group that the nation is looking at,” Kemboi noted.
