World Tuberculosis Day

TB was first recorded by Dr. Robert Koch in1882 when he  discovered the bacterium that causes TB. His research opened a way towards how the disease could be prevented or cured.

The disease is caused by germs that spread from a person to another through air, hence it is an airbone disease. It mostly affects the lungs but there have also been cases where it has attacked the brain, the spine and the kidney.

Most common symptoms of TB is weakness, weight loss, fever and night sweats. Once it affects the lungs, one may experience blood in coughs and chest pains.

The disease is fast spreading which calls for regular check-up. TB is curable if diagonised early. A patient is given a series of drugs for 6 to 12 months.

Health personnels advice for screening incase the symptoms are noted for early treatment.
