Following the Supreme Court's rule that President-elect William Ruto was legitimately elected in the General Election on August 9, Ruto will take the oath of office on September 13, 2022.

According to Article 141 of the Kenyan Constitution, the first Tuesday after seven days have passed before the court's ruling is rendered pronouncing the election to be valid.

Thus William Ruto will be sworn in as the incoming president after taking and swearing to uphold the oaths of allegiance and office performance, he will officially assume his position as the 5th president of Kenya.

The Chief Justice or, in the absence of the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice, will publicly swear in the President-elect at the ceremony.

After taking the oath, the new president must sign a certificate of inauguration and the outgoing president must give the new president the Constitution and the sword that represent his or her power and authority.

William Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua are set to take office as President and Deputy President, respectively in the coming week

On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected Raila Odinga’s presidential petition after the seven-judge panel led by Chief Justice Martha Koome decided unanimously that the presidential election on August 9 was held in accordance with the nation's constitution.
