Two Women In Nairobi Charged After Abducting A Newborn Baby

The two suspects stood in front of Judge Wendi Micheni and denied three counts of child theft.

They allegedly planned to abduct a child under the age of one month from an unknown parent on unknown dates in the year 2022 at unknown locations within the country of Kenya.

Wanjiku was accused of breaking the law by taking from children in the second count.

Wanjiku illegally abducted infant F.W, a child under one month, from an unknown parent who had lawful custody or possession of the said baby on March 15, 2022, in Mihango, Kayole, Nairobi, according to the court.

Felista Wairimu was charged in count 3 with receiving baby F.W, a kid under the age of one month, on March 15, 2022, at Mihango in Kayole, Nairobi County, knowing she was or taking her with the aim to deprive the unknown parent who had lawful custody or possession of the said baby F.W.

Felista Wairimu was discovered with the child at Kenyatta Hospital, where she had taken the baby for treatment, according to the prosecution, but her inconsistent history with the baby prompted the hospital to conduct a medical checkup on her to confirm if she had indeed given birth to the child as alleged.

She provided a birth certificate claiming the child was delivered on March 18th, but medical testing indicated she had not given birth as claimed.

She was soon apprehended, and she admitted to purchasing the infant on March 22 from the second suspect, Lydia Wanjiku Maina.

The two pled not guilty and were released on a monetary bond of 500,000 shillings.
