Turkana Governor Blames CS Matiang'i and IG for Laxity on Turkana Bandit Attacks

Turkana governor, Josphat Nanok has released a statement blaming the Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i and the Inspector General of Police, Hilary Mutyambai for their laxity and for failing to uphold the law and protect citizens in Turkana county, especially during this period as they are experiencing bandit attacks in the region.

The incumbent governor of Turkana has described recent attacks in the county as political and intended to undermine elections.

"This is a tool for politicians to mobilize support by whipping the emotions of the county residents," part of the statement read.

Nanok also stated that there was laxity experienced in response to the attacks that were experienced in the area.

"Security agencies based in Napeitom were not present and only arrived at the scene more than ten hours later after the damage had been done despite being strategically stationed in Kapedo, Lomelo, and Lokari," he stated.

He claimed that the bandits used mercenary tactics in razing the houses where eight people were burned to death and a minor was abducted by suspected Pokot in Napeitom.

On Sunday night, the incident occurred in Napeitom, Turkana East. The suspects are from Tiaty in Baringo County.

Interior CS Matiang'i launched the operation in June to restore security following a series of attacks that killed dozens and displaced thousands.

He blamed the violence on political incitement and expressed frustration with local leaders' lack of goodwill and cooperation.
