Among the three was an eldery woman and two sister. The younger sister of one was a third-grade student at Ebusakame Primary School, while the older girl was a Form Three student at Hobunaka Secondary School.

The incident was confirmed by Luanda Township Chief Zaddock Otieno on Monday morning. He added that although the woman with the sisters was unrelated to them, they were all from the same community.

He said that the two sisters were daughters of a boda boda driver in Luanda.

"We are saddened. This happened when it had started raining. Lightning struck and killed the three on the spot. The village is in mourning and we join the families during this difficult time," Otieno said.

The chief urged people to take precautions whenever it rains by finding suitable shelter and argued that a house is a safer place to seek refuge than a veranda or a tree.

Additionally, he suggested that individuals avoid walking barefoot on wet surfaces.

"When it is raining, people should have shoes or other footwear on. These are some of the precautionary measures I feel should be taken to ensure safety when it is raining," Otieno said.

The bodies were transported to the Coptic Hospital morgue by the Luanda police.
