According to a statement released on Monday night, this was done to allow the Nairobi County Government to investigate new racism allegations against the restaurant located at Westlands.

“After careful consultation with Nairobi County Government, The Alchemist has agreed to close its doors while a thorough investigation is conducted over the next few days,” read the statement.

The club said the investigation would look into the events of Saturday night, where a bouncer was caught on tape purportedly sending a Black patron out of a line that appeared to be made up entirely of non-Blacks, to see if the guests in question were denied entry and if there was a policy in place to separate the lines for guests.

According to Alchemist, individuals included in the video would be interviewed, and footage from the entire event would be analyzed.

“Review of The Alchemist, in general, to determine if there has ever been a policy of discrimination. Interviews and footage will be reviewed of the past events at the gate and inside the establishment,” the statement further noted.

The Alchemist further apologized for the incident on Sunday, stating, "To anyone who has felt aggrieved, we sincerely apologize. We look forward to sitting down together and addressing these issues head-on."

The club came under attack in August 2018 after a certain customer claimed that security had refused her seating because the seats were solely for White Kenyans and Kenyans of Asian origin.
