Suspect Arrested in Kericho For Assaulting His Children Aged 7 and 9 Over A Lost Radio

The suspect, who Bright Kenya News reporter identified as Zablon Momanyi, was arrested as he tried to escape after taking the children who had sustained serious injuries to the Kericho Municipal Hospital.

According to the suspect, he did not hit the children so hard but was just interrogating them over a lost radio.

"I just instructed them to bring over the lost radio, but I disciplined them as a parent should do. The injuries seen here were sustained by the bed bars as they tried to hide," said Momanyi.

The community policy manager  Ronald Kigen has told the press that the village elder informed him that there was a case of assault in our village, and he and Nyumba Kumi team took action to look for the children who were in Kericho Municipality hospital.

“We have taken the children to the children’s department, and we will further proceed to the hospital so that the children can be treated. The suspect will be taken to court to face the full force of the law,’’ said Kigen.

The director of Children Services, Kericho County, Mrs. Jane Rono, confirmed the report and cautioned the parents against pouring their anger towards their children.

“We have received several cases of children being assaulted this holiday season. Parents should exercise restraint on punishment meted on their children. Should you be found abusing children's rights, you will be arrested. The government will place the children in safe custody until a right guardian is found that will take care of the children,’’ said Mrs. Rono.

The suspect, who appears to have been separated from his wife for ten years, will be held in Kericho Police station for further questioning.
