SAD: Ex President Kenyatta Mourns  Fallen Matu Wamae

 Former Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta on December 15th sent his condolence message to the family, relatives, and friends of renowned politician and entrepreneur Eliud Matu Wamae who died at a Nairobi hospital last night on Tuesday 14th.

According to Uhuru`s condolence message, of comfort and encouragement to the family, the former President described Mzee Wamae as a hardworking and progressive Kenyan who made a significant contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.

Apart from his outstanding leadership as a Member of Parliament for Mathira Constituency for three terms, former President Kenyatta said Mzee Wamae will also be remembered for the key role he played in the revival of the New Kenya Cooperative Creameries.


“To Mrs Joyce Gathoni Wamae, the children and grand children, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time of grieving and loss,” Former President Kenyatta said.

The former head of state also eulogised Wamae as a hardworking and progressive Kenyan who made a significant contribution to the country’s socioeconomic development.


He prayed to God to give the widow of Mzee Wamae the strength and courage to bear the loss.

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Mathira constituency Matu Wamae passed on the evening of December 14 at Nairobi hospital.

The late Matu Wamae was born in Kianyingi village in Mathira constituency in 1933 and served three consecutive terms from 1983 to 1988, when he was defeated by Ngibuini Kuguru, and again from 1992 to 2002, when Nderitu Gachagua was elected on a Narc- Kenya ticket.

He also served as chairman of Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) for 15 years before being succeeded by Ignatius Kahiu.

He wrote the book 'Born to Serve,' in which he recounted Moi's 24-year rule and its impact on the Kikuyu community. In the book, he packs a riveting memoir tracing his valiant journey from a small boy born on the slopes of Mt Kenya to his nearly six-decade service to the nation in politics and other arenas.

It also holds significant memories from pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial times. The book, written in the first person, provides a glimpse into a number of events that shaped the country's political, social, and economic footprints.
