Russian President Vladimir Putin was stripped of his honorary taekwondo black belt after Russia invaded Ukraine.

World Taekwondo condemned the attack and said it violated the sport's values of respect and tolerance.

"In this regard, World Taekwondo has decided to withdraw the honorary 9th dan black belt conferred to Mr. Vladimir Putin in November 2013," it said in a statement. 

It also said it would join the IOC in banning the Russian flag and anthem in events is conducted. 

Russia attacked Ukraine's second-largest city, Kharkiv. This resulted in fresh sanctions from the USA and its allies. 

Russia says its actions in Ukraine are a "special operation". It says the aim is not to occupy territory but to destroy its military capabilities and capture what it considers dangerous nationalists.
