In Kitengela, a young woman is alleged to have been brutally murdered in her flat and then her body set ablaze.
On Thursday, June 30, 2022, according to the building's caretaker, the woman’s home was broken into by residents when they saw smoke coming from her unit.
"There was a huge black smoke and we thought the tenant has left and the house was burning. When we broke into the house we found that our tenant was burning. All her household goods were collected together under the bed including an empty gas cylinder. The house had stains of blood and plucked hair," said the caretaker.
The woman reportedly spent three months living in the apartment and according to neighbors, she only sometimes checked in with her male friends and didn't interact with the other tenants.
The deceased is believed to have been an employee of an apparel company in Athi-river, according to the neighbors.
Ancient Kaloki, Isinya sub-county police commander said authorities have launched an immediate probe into the incident.
According to a detective with knowledge of the current inquiries, police are looking for a boda boda rider who frequented the woman's home and is also thought to be her boyfriend.
Residents urged security services to complete their investigations as soon as possible to determine what might have happened.
The woman's body was taken to the mortuary of the Kitengela sub-county hospital.
