Tokyo Olympics 2021: Ban on Overseas Spectators Now Confirmed.

The president of the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, Seiko Hashimoto, gave a statement at a news conference saying, The fact that the spectators are not able to attend the Games from abroad, that is very disappointing and its regrettable,

The reality of COVID-19 informed this decision. The global pandemic is still active and holding Tokyo Olympics 2021 fully packed with spectators will fuel the spread of the virus. Having spectators would overburden the health care system in Japan.

Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics are some of the most attended games in the world. Many overseas spectators had already bought tickets as early as 2019. With the Olympics set to begin on July 23, those overseas spectators who had purchased tickets are yet to receive clear information on how they will get their refund. The communication came after a virtual meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympics Committee(IPC), the Tokyo government, and the Japanese Government.
