Sakaja Says He Lacked School Fees To Complete Studies At UoN

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has acknowledged that he did not complete his studies at the University of Nairobi(UoN) due to a lack of fees.

Sakaja claimed in an interview with Spice FM on Friday morning that he dropped out of the UoN because he couldn't afford the tuition and needed to focus on other things.

"There is a document being shared that shows it was the issue of fees. There were a few units I did not complete but the ceremony of graduation is not what confers the knowledge to you," he said.

He said that by the time he experienced financial success, he was too embarrassed to return to school and mentioned that he would eventually return to the UoN to complete his coursework.

"By the time I was able to afford the fee, I was too embarrassed and shy to go back to class. But that is something I will be able to go back and finish. About two or three units. There is no law that says you must bring a degree from UoN."

At the same time, he defended his Team University degree, asserting that the certificate is authentic.

He referred to the continuing investigation of his degree as a political witch hunt and promised to handle it the same manner.

On Thursday, Commission for University Education(CUE) once again canceled Sakaja's degree as the committee ruled that the Teams University degree is ineligible for consideration since he did not present enough proof that he obtained his degree legally.

In a letter to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, CUE stated that the governor candidate had not provided any evidence as of the conclusion of inquiries into the validity of the degree given by Team University in Uganda.

At the conclusion of the investigation, CUE claimed that neither Team's University nor Sakaja himself had provided any proof that he had been pursuing a degree.
