Nominated MP Sankok Mourns the Death of His Son

On May 2, tragedy struck the home of nominated Member of Parliament David Sankok when his 15-year-old son, Memusi Sankok shot himself dead at his father's home in Ewaso Ngiro farm, Narok county.

The son is said to have committed the crime with his father's gun.

According to police and his family, Memusi Sankok, who was supposed to start Form 3 at Kericho High School, was asked to return to school but disagreed with his father's advice.

According to preliminary reports, the boy, a high school student, allegedly shot himself in one of their home's rooms with the father's gun.

However, the circumstances surrounding the boy's death are unknown, though preliminary reports indicate a squabble with his father over his failure to return to school.

The boy was supposed to return to school last week, according to his family.

The father, who was out of the country at the time, sent pocket money and shopping money.

“He instead disappeared from the home only returned yesterday. The father also returned home yesterday Sunday,”  stated a family friend.

The father summoned the boy for a meeting on Monday morning. The boy insisted that he was exhausted by school.

However, after a lengthy discussion, the boy agreed to return to school on Tuesday, accompanied by his father.

“The MP then left the homestead and went to his hotel nearby for a political meeting. At around 3 pm, the boy accessed the mother's handbag and took the keys to the bedroom and the safe. After opening the safe, he took a gloak pistol and shot himself on the chin, with the bullet exiting through the back head,” read the report.

DCI detectives went to the scene to gather forensic evidence in order to commence the investigations.

The body was later found in the house and was transported to the Narok County Referral Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem will be performed to determine the cause of death.

“The father was not home when the boy shot himself and it's not clear how he accessed the firearm that should have been properly secured,” said a senior officer aware of the incident.

According to family members, the son and father have been arguing about his academic performance.
