Malawi Government Arrests Chinese Filmmaker Behind Racist Videos Of Children In The Country

The Malawi government has detained a Chinese filmmaker who was wanted for capturing video clips of children performing racist slogans.

On Monday, he was apprehended by Malawian authorities in Zambia.

The defendant was attempting to flee by undiscovered ways, according to Malawi immigration spokesperson Pasqually Zulu, who confirmed his detention.

"He was arrested in Chipata, Zambia after fleeing the country through uncharted routes," Zulu said speaking to AFP.

After being featured in a BBC report, the suspect, Lu Ke, was pursued down on charges of racism and child trafficking.

Lu Ke used to make the kids sing racist statements about themselves in Chinese words they didn't understand.

He then went on to sell the films on Chinese social media sites.

A group of children were shown in one video, which sparked outrage, uttering a Chinese chant that translated to "I'm a black monster with a low IQ."

According to the BBC report, some of the children in the video clips recall being punished by Lu Ke when they failed to do what he demanded of them.

Malawi is currently talking with the Chinese government, according to spokesman Zulu, to have Lu Ke held for a little longer to allow investigators to conclude their investigations.

Chinese diplomat Wu Peng stated that his country does not tolerate discrimination against other nationalities and that he will continue to pursue individuals like Lu Ke and ensure that they are brought to justice.

"China has been cracking down on those unlawful online acts in the past yrs. We'll continue to crack down on such racial discrimination videos in the future," he wrote on his Twitter.
