Kenyans Invited To Name New Parliamentary Building At Ksh. 100,000 Cash Reward

The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) announced a naming competition for a newly constructed multi-story office complex on Monday, June 13, with a Ksh100,000 prize for the best name.

According to a notice published in local dailies on Monday, interested Kenyans are asked to join in the naming competition by submitting name proposals.

The PSC Director-General, Clement Nyandiere said that the ideas should be in accordance with the magnificent legislative function that Parliament performs in the country.

“The name must be catchy, and reflect the values of the institution of Parliament and its stature. The winning proposal shall be awarded Ksh100,000," the statement read.

In addition, the commission encouraged interested parties to utilize names in the House that recognize minority groups. Applicants will also be expected to explain why they chose the names they did.

Proposed names, however, must be those of a full emeritus status (deceased) and should not be copyrighted, trademarked, or under other legal restrictions.

"Names that celebrate underrepresented groups in legislature, especially women or minority groups who have made great advances but did not receive appropriate historical recognition, are also encouraged," the statement added.

Interested Kenyans should obtain the submission forms from the parliament's website and send the duly filled copy to the tender box at Parliament by next Monday, June 20, at 11am. One can also send their submission to the Parliament's procurement office via email.

The newly completed 26-story Parliament tower in the city, which will house the increased 418-member legislature, is the most likely candidate for a name.

How to submit the proposal

Interested applicants should visit www.parliament.go.ke/downloads to get admission forms from the Parliamentary Service Commission.

Each nomination should include the name of the entrants, a suggested building name, a one-line pitch, and a description of no more than 250 words.

Drop the forms in the tender box on the fourth floor of Protection House or email them to [email protected] or [email protected] after completion.
