Following the increase in the number of positive Coronavirus cases, Deputy President William Ruto has now suspended all the public gatherings until further notice.
Ruto’s move comes hours after the President extended the nationwide curfew for a further 60 Days while banning all the political gatherings countrywide.
Speaking on Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the pandemic remains a major threat to Kenyan health and livelihoods with the country recording a positivity rate of 14% being the highest this year.
The entire political gatherings stand banned for a period of 30 Days with the Police Service directed to strictly enforce the measures regardless of the political class.
Posting on his official Twitter account, the Deputy President said, “The Covid-19 infection rates have become a serious source of concern making it necessary for GoK to take remedial measures to manage and contain the pandemic. With the President's announcement of containment measures, I forthwith suspend all public engagement until further notice,” said DP Ruto on Twitter.
The move by the President to tighten the measures comes after the country recorded a major increase in the positivity rate in what the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe termed as the “Covid Third Wave”.
