Beer is the Most Preferred Drink in Kenya, Report Shows

According to a survey conducted by the East African Breweries PLC (EABL) in the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2022, beer is the most preferred drink among Kenyans.

In comparison to spirits, malt, and others, beer performance increased by 27%, aided by the beer recovery in Kenya, according to the report.

Kenyans increased their consumption of various alcoholic beverages in the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2022, according to a report by East African Breweries PLC (EABL).

On the other hand, Kenyans spent Ksh109.4 billion on various alcoholic brands in the country. This figure represents a 27% increase over the previous year's net sales.

“EABL has delivered another set of consistently strong results across key metrics. These results reflect the high-performance culture we have created across the business, the rigorous execution of our strategy, the strength of our portfolio across categories, and our agility in responding to emerging trends and insights,” EABL Group CEO Jane Karuku stated.

According to the report, if the net sales of other brewers in the country are considered, the total amount Kenyans spent on hard drinks is likely to be higher than the net sales EABL recorded.

“The group’s net sales were boosted by double-digit growth across all its markets and categories, owing to an improved operating environment as outlets reopened, coupled with sustained investment behind marketing and commercial activities,” the report stated.

According to the report, the group's spirits category increased by 26%, boosted by a 27% increase in mainstream spirits. It also stated that local spirits production contributed to further incremental growth, establishing the company as a total beverage alcohol player.
