According to the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), the fixed-wing aircraft, which belonged to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT), reportedly crashed at 7:15 a.m. while on patrol in the park's northern frontier, killing its occupants.

Officials said that two people were inside the fixed-wing Cessna Sky Wagon with the tail number 5Y-DHS when the aircraft fell.

“The plane, a Cessna 185 registration number 5Y-DHS, belonging to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (DSWT), crashed at around 7:15am while on patrol in Huri – the north Eastern boundary of the park, regrettably instantly killing both occupants on board.

Teams from KWS and DSWT arrived on the scene to look into what caused the collision.

The two featured a pilot and a co-pilot, both of whom were once well-liked Kenya Wildlife Service wardens.

They were attempting to move livestock, which included cows, camels, and goats, out of the park when the incident occurred.

An officer said it was still too early to determine what caused the collision.

Teresia Igiria, the KWS's Head of Corporate Communications, promised that further information would be made public shortly.

“For now, we can’t share the identities of the victims until their relatives are informed,”Igiria said
