NPS Arrests 6 Criminals in Mathare Estate During Night Raid

Following the deployment of the General Police Service Unit {GSU} and the Rapid Deployment Unit {RDU} in Nairobi's popular Central Business District { CBD}  and its environs to deal with the ongoing insecurity issues, the National Police Service {NPS} arrested at least 6 criminals who have been terrorizing the lives of Mathare area 1 residents.

In a statement by the National Police service on Tuesday 22nd via their Twitter account, they stated that during the night raid the officers on patrol arrested 6 suspected youths aged between 20-26 years. The 6, who were flushed from their hideout in Mathare Area 1 were found in possession of 4 knives, one stone, and 8 rolls of bhang.

"The National Police Service Multi-Agency Team in Nairobi continues to make headways in addressing the emergence of predatory crimes especially "muggings" in Nairobi. Yesterday, officers on patrol arrested 6 suspected youths aged between 20-26 years.

"The 6, who were flushed from their hideout in Mathare Area 1 were found in possession of 4 knives, one stone and 8 rolls of bhang. The 6 have since been processed and will be arraigned in court," the statement read in part.

However, Social media users wondered how the criminals acquired the unusual knife with the green handle.

The knife is exclusively made for military use and is meant for close-quarters warfare. Its serrated edge, which can cut through belts and ropes, fabric, and several other textured materials, is one of its distinctive qualities.

The arrest of eth 6 criminals comes barely a week after the  Inspector General, Mr. Japhet Koome issued a stern warning to crime syndicates in Nairobi and across the country to either desist from crime or else face the full force of the law.

There have been numerous reports of theft, some of which have seen the culprits take bolder tactics.
On Monday 21st Evening it was reported that four armed robbers stole bread and Ksh21,000 at gunpoint in Kasarani. A Hyundai motor vehicle which was being driven by Nicholas Mutie, 38, and Mr. Faruk Ongaki, 22 was stopped by the suspected robbers.

“It was established that the motor vehicle of registration number KBS 915D which was loaded with 281 crates of bread was accosted and robbed by four men who were armed,” a police report stated as quoted by the publication.

The two surrendered their cell phones when the armed robbers ordered that they do so. Additionally, they destroyed a tracking device, siphoned all the fuel, and placed the bread onto a waiting car whose license plate number was not recorded.
