Netflix Plans A Squid Game - Inspired Reality Show

Netflix announced on Wednesday that Squid Game: The Challenge, a 10-episode series, would have the largest cast and lump cash prize in reality TV history.

The reality show will, however, not be a life or death situation as depicted in the original series, instead, the 456 contestants will compete in games where the worst fate is missing out on the prize money of $4.56 million.

The contestants are from around the world; they must be at least 21 years old, speak English, and be available for filming for up to four weeks in early 2023.

Within a month of its release, the South Korean series Squid Game became the most popular Netflix series.

On Monday, Hwang Dong-hyuk, director, writer, and executive producer of Squid Game said, "Last year, the first season of Squid Game took 12 years to complete. Squid Game, on the other hand, just needed 12 days to become the most popular Netflix series ever."

The thriller depicts the story of a group of debt-ridden people competing in a deadly series of children's games in which the loser is killed.

Netflix said that the 10-episode reality competition will be produced in the United Kingdom and will include games inspired by the original program and new ones.

On June 12, 2022, Netflix confirmed that the popular film Squid Game would be renewed for a second season.
