Following the killing of four Myanmar democratic Heroes that took place on Monday 25th July at the Myanmar prison grounds, different activists have now taken to the streets protesting against the brutal killing.

The four activists, Ko Jimmy, Phyo Zeyar Thaw, Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw were hanged to death over the weekend as it was announced Myanmar military junta.

According to details sourced by this publication, two longtime activists, Ko Jimmy, 52, a veteran of the 1988 pro-democracy uprising, and Phyo Zayar Thaw, 41, a former National League for Democracy (NLD) MP were hanged to death for allegedly plotting to carry out attacks on regime targets.

In regards to a junta official, the other two individuals Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw were murdered for allegedly killing military informants in 2021.

They had been found guilty of "murdering innocent citizens" by a military court in Yangon, where they had been tried under the Counter-Terrorism Law and given the death penalty.

“The punishment has been conducted under the prison’s procedures,” according to a statement that appeared in the Global New Light of Myanmar, a junta mouthpiece, on Monday. No further details were provided.

The killing of the Activist has been condemned by different leaders including Parliamentarians from Southeast Asia who termed the move judicial barbarism.

“These executions are nothing but appalling acts of evil committed by a brutal junta that has shown no qualms about waging a war against the Myanmar population in order to cement its power. The global community, and all ASEAN members, in particular, should take these cold-blooded assassinations as yet another wake-up call on the true nature of the regime of terror that the Myanmar military is attempting to impose in the country,” said Eva Sundari, a former member of the House of Representatives in Indonesia and Board Member of ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR).

Assistance Association for Political Detainees (AAPP), a Myanmar-based organization, reports that as of July 22, 76 prisoners in Myanmar had received death sentences, including two minors, and another 41 had received them in absentia. In its attempt to crush the broad opposition to military rule, the self-styled State Administration Council (SAC), commanded by General Min Aung Hlaing, has executed at least 2114 individuals since the coup on February 1, 2021.
