A charity drive for the late veteran news anchor Catherine Kasavuli has been scheduled for Saturday, January 7, beginning at 5 PM at the United Kenya Club.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is set to preside over the fundraising event aimed to raise money to pay the medical bill, which is estimated at Ksh 4 million.

On January 12, a memorial ceremony will be held in her honor at Nairobi's Friends International Church on Ngong Road.

The funeral will then take place at Tigoi Primary School in Zululu, Vihiga County, on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

Kasavuli presented the Legends news segment for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) up until her death. She hosted the Legends Edition, which is shown every Saturday night on KBC Channel 1.

She was a radio continuity announcer for the public broadcaster before moving to Kenya Television Network (KTN), where she was one of the first group of newscasters at the then-created first private TV station in the nation.

Kasavuli later worked for Royal Media Services as a corporate affairs manager and news anchor at Citizen TV in 2007, before taking a break from the screens.

She rejoined KBC in 2021 as part of a group of veteran journalists that made a comeback to the station.

Kasavuli was the nation's first female TV news anchor and is credited with paving the way for female TV journalists in Kenya.

The late Kasavuli, who was an award-winning journalist, lost her battle with cervical cancer on Thursday night, December 29, 2022. She died at the age of 60.
