Missing Man In Siaya Found Dead As Insecurity Befalls The County

Salim was reported missing on the night of Wednesday, May 11, 2022, and his body was recovered at the Bondo Sub County Hospital mortuary two days later.

According to police reports, Salim's remains were discovered in a bush on the outskirts of Bondo town on Friday morning, two days after he went missing.

He lived in Bondo town and worked as a bread vendor for a retail business owner in the area.

He attended Maranda's Rockrick Victory Church. Members of his church failed to see him on Sunday, May 15, and their pastor sent his son to check on him.

On reaching Salim’s house, the door was unlocked, and plates of food alongside a flask were found on the table. The food was rotting, indicating that no one had gone to the house for quite some time.

On the night he went missing, some neighbors reported hearing numerous footsteps in and out of his house.

The search for Salim began with his boss noticing that the vendor had returned the motorcycle and had not been seen in days. He was not found in police cells or medical wards.

On May 13, police dropped off an unidentified person at the mortuary, who was later identified as Salim.

“We found him at the mortuary. His face tissues were seriously injured; you could not identify him easily. Even the mortuary attendant knew him but never suspected it was Salim,” his pastor recalled.

The pastor recounted that Salim’s body was found tied with ropes and appeared to have been dragged on the ground by his killers. He also noted that majority of the injuries were to the head, chest, limbs, and stomach.

The case has some similarities to Brian Ochieng's who was taken at his in-law's shop in the market centre last month.

Ochieng was kidnapped on Monday, April 11, 2022, and was discovered dead, thrown in a nearby thicket two days later, on April 14, 2022.

Ochieng's eyes were gouged out, his back was harked, and his head was smashed.

Both Salim and Ochieng were members of Rockrick Victory Church but in different branches of the same division, Siaya county.

According to Siaya county police commander Michael Muchiri, the inquiry into Ochieng's murder is ongoing. No one has been charged with his murder.
