Matiang’i Rubbishes Claims Of Government Plans To Increase Taxes On Boda-Boda Riders.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i addressing the Boda-boda leaders Forum.

Speaking at a forum where he met officials from the boda-boda sector from all the 47 counties in the country, Matiang’i assured the boda-boda riders that the plan by the government to register them a  fresh is not a plan to impose more taxes on the sector.

The CS further called on the boda-boda operators to cooperate with the ministry in the reforms being made in their sector adding that it was intended to make the sector safer and to attract more investors.

Reforming the boda-boda sector is a critical public policy decision that government has already made. The people who are in the sector are genuine Kenyans who are raising their families from this business,” Matiang’i said.

We don’t want them to be interfered with by criminals. We want to clean the sector so that it continues to thrive and succeed.” The CS added.

The CS further urged the sector not to be deceived by politicians who may incite them and exploit them as we near the electioneering period.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, for us in Kenya, we are now dealing with the pandemic of lies and foul language by our politicians. They just wake up in the morning to drive around the country and lie,” Matiang’i added.

In his message to the Regional Commissioners and County Commissioners the CS urged them to increase their levels of engagements with the boda-boda riders so that their issues can be added in to the ongoing reforms.

The ministry aims to digitally register members through the help of the ministry of Information Technology (IT). Further in attendance at the meeting was the IT Cabinet secretary Joe Mucheru
