In the early hours of that tragic night, Titus Murunga and his four daughters were hospitalised at Kocholya Level Four Hospital due to severe stomach pains.

Two of the girls, however, were discharged from the hospital on Monday after their conditions improved, while the third remained there  but in a stable condition.

According to Teso North Sub County Police commander David Muange, who confirmed the occurrence stated that the family may have eaten contaminated food.

Muange was told by several witnesses at the site that Murunga and his children had eaten beans mixed with unidentified leaves before the tragedy. Muange stated that white froth was coming out of the deceased's mouth and nose.

Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have subsequently begun investigations to identify the plant from which the allegedly toxic leaves were harvested, the police chief stated.

He pleaded with the general public to refrain from making assumptions about the occurrence and wait for a postmortem to be performed to determine the precise cause of death.

Ironically, Murunga's wife Lydia Chepkwemoi, is still at large, and authorities looking into the incident are trying to figure out why she wasn't hurt like the rest of the family.

Muange asserts that the woman may have ran away out of concern for her safety from Murunga's family and neighbors.

He urged the community to cease threatening the woman and allow her to appear before the police wherever she is to explain any possible prior events.
